The UR-100, the newest creation of Urwerk, invites its wearer on a journey through both time and space. The two concepts united here on a single dial invite a subtle game of perceptions. Time or space, minutes or kilometers? Both dimensions merge with each other and present us with a living testimony of our earthly adventure.
The concepts of space and time have always been closely interwoven. As early as 6000 B.C. the first divisions of hours were made, and for just as long man has had an idea of our galactic journey, the endless journey through space, the round dance of hours, days and years. This orbital movement around the sun is reflected in every creation of Urwerk, and the new UR-100 SpaceTime collection also remains true to this principle.
In addition to the hours and minutes display, the UR-100 features a new display: as soon as the minute hand has passed through the 60th minute, it disappears only to reappear as an odometer. This counter traces the 555-kilometer journey that every Earth inhabitant makes every 20 minutes – even in perfect immobility – through the Earth’s rotation. Opposite on the dial, another value is displayed, which corresponds to the Earth’s orbital speed around the Sun (35,740 km per 20 minutes). Hours and kilometers on the UR-100 are on the same level and share the same status. Therefore, Urwerk has also decided for the name UR-100 SpaceTime.
Under the dome of the UR-100, the Urwerk caliber 12.01 operates with an hour display via three satellites. The satellite, which indicates the exact hour, moves from 0 to 60 along the minute track. The satellites rest on a coated brass carousel. The outstanding structure of the hour display is made of aluminum. Urwerk has equipped hours and minutes with Super-LumiNova to ensure that everything is perfectly legible.
The movement works on a frequency of 4 Hz and provides a power reserve of 48 hours.
The automatic movement is located in a case that reminds of the good old days of Urwerk and fans of the brand remember the aesthetics of the first models. Thus the design of the UR-100 is a kind of “Back to the future” for the manufacturer. The case measures 41.0 mm x 49.7 mm x 14.0 mm and is waterproof to 3 atm.
The UR-100 is a special edition, available in two versions – titanium and steel with a black PVD coating – of only 25 units.
