Last year, Bell & Ross pushed the limits further by introducing the BR-X1 Chronograph Toubillon Sapphire and we, like many others, drooled all over it while crying a little due to its extreme limitation. Equipped with a case which only left little to the imagination, the manufacturer made it very clear – for the few who didn’t know already – that he is up for playing in the big leagues. Now, Bell & Ross has a new all-sapphire piece of this predecessor in its collection: the BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire.
Over the last year we have seen an increase of transparent watches. This kind of timepieces became popular amongst manufacturers and watch enthusiasts; Richard Mille and MB&F were pioneers, others, like Bell & Ross, followed. The technology proceeded, but since sapphire crystal is still not an easy material to work with, the editions are mostly limited to small numbers and quite pricey, making these watches only available for a handful of fans.
The BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire is not as technical sophisticated as its predecessor. This results in a more minimalistic style. Everything you can see, you will see in this watch, cut down to the essentials. The dial at 12 o’clock is skeletonized, showing only hours and minutes. The indices and hands are equipped with white Super-LumiNova. At the 6 o’clock position lies the flying tourbillon which seems to float between the layers of sapphire crystal.
The BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire is powered by the calibre BR-CAL.288, a hand-wound movement. Bell & Ross skeletonized it radically, only leaving the bare essentials. The bridges are open-worked, you can see really everything of the movement – and right through it. If you’re not hypnotized by the magnificent flying tourbillon. The calibre works with 21.600 v/ph and provides a power reserve of approximately 100 hours when fully wound.
The movement is housed in an all-sapphire case which measures 45 mm in diameter and is highly recognizable. It consists of five pieces which are held together by screws. The BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire comes with a translucent rubber strap.
Like the BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon Sapphire, the BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire is also limited to 8 pieces. Each of them will burn a 350.000€-hole in your pocket.
