After introducing its Tourbillon in 2014 and the Minute Repeater in 2016, Bulgari now presents its newest creation. The Octo Finissimo Automatic is the slimmest ultra-thin self-winding watch on the market.
Extreme thinness is a horological complication in its own right, because merely slimming down or miniaturising existing elements would be far too simple. Instead, each element – even the tiniest – must be conceived and designed right from the outset so as to contribute to the extreme overall slenderness of the watch. And this implies not only the parts of the movement but every other part of the timepiece as well, the entire elements composing the case and dial.
The elegance of extreme thinness relies on mastery of volumes and shapes, and also stems from the subtle approach required in dealing with this field.
This watch only features a thickness of just 5.15 mm. The movement itself is 2.23 mm thin. Bulgari has developed a new in-house movement for the Octo Finissimo Automatic, the calibre BVL 138. At just 2.23 mm thick, it earns, like mentioned earlier, the title of the slimmest self-winding movement currently on the market. An offset small seconds hand adds an addition to refinement. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and has a 60-hour power reserve. The movement is hand-decorated with Côtes de Genève and circular-grained finishing.
As to guarantee the legibility and the contrast effect, the hands and hour markers of the Octo Finissimo Automatic are coated with a black PVD treatment.
The case and dial are attired in titanium, featuring a sandblasted surface that lends a highly contemporary note to this watch. Its facets provide shimmering reflections that naturally draw the gaze. Prolonging the sensual pleasure procured by the light feel of titanium, the watch comes in a version equipped with an alligator leather strap – in this instance with a matching titanium pin buckle, as well as a titanium bracelet. The case is also water-restistant to 30 meters.
This watch is extremely impressive in watchmaking terms, while maintain a chic and simple outward appearance.
