Jaeger-LeCoultre has raised the bar once again with its Master Ultra Thin Squelette. With a height of 3.6mm in total this watch is even thinner (0.05 mm) than the Piaget Altiplano 900P (which is introduced here). It comes with an optional diamond decoration on the bezel and a lot of hand-engraving on the skeletonized movement. Each Master Ultra Thin Squelette watch represents a perfectly balanced combination of exceptional design, watchmaking expertise, and craftsmanship.
This height is possible because of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 849ASQ. And the total height of 3.6mm includes the case, dial, hands and both sapphire crystals. The hand-winding movement contains 119 pieces and 19 jewels and provides a power reserve of 33 hours. The caliber has been skeletonized by hand and all redundant materials were removed with the result that the movement is only 1.85mm thick. The versions with diamond are 4.73mm thick in total.
The dial is cut into twelve zones and differentiated by hour-markers, created in the great tradition of watchmaking. The ring which sits under the hour marker scale comes in different colors (depending on the model) and is guilloche engraved and given an application of enamel paint.
On both their front and reverse faces, the watches in this collection illustrate the delicate skills of the master craftsmen of the manufacturer’s rare handcrafts. The skeletonized movement is decorated with various patterns and motifs. It looks very classic.
The focus on this watch clearly lies on its looks – not on its legibilty. The hour and minute hands do not stand out that well due to their size and placement in front of the skeletonized movement. Guessing that perfect legibility is not the main reason to purchase one of these watches, this point of criticism might not be an important refutation.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Squelette comes in different styles. All watches are water resistant up to 3 bar. The strap is made from alligator leather.
