Sporty Vibes at Maurice de Mauriac

Maurice de Mauriac has teamed up with tennis legend Stan Smith to launch a limited edition watch collection. The former number one in the world of tennis is not only the eponym of the Stan Smith Signature Watch, but has also participated with great commitment in its development. After the Adidas cult sneaker, this cooperation with the watch manufacturer is only the second that the former tennis champion has entered into.

Linked by their love of tennis and watchmaking as well as their constant drive for top performance, Daniel Dreifuss, founder of Maurice de Mauriac, and Stan Smith got along right away. For two years, the two of them worked intensively together on the new model. It was intended to honour the great triumphs of the tennis legend on the one hand, and to meet the high standards of craftsmanship and design of Maurice de Mauriac on the other. Together, Dreifuss and Smith duelled over every detail, reworked the prototype over and over again until they finally met the demands of both sides. And the finished watch involves some beautiful features.

The limitation of the watch to 100 pieces per colour variation refers to the 100 tournament victories Stan Smith achieved during his career between 1968 and 1985.
The case of the Stan Smith Signature Watch is made of stainless steel, comes with a diameter of 42 mm and is water-resistant up to 100 meters. The bezel is smooth and beautifully rounded. Depending on the version, various details on the dial are red, green or red. All of the watches feature the “tennis ball” second hand and the replacement of “Swiss Made” on the dial by “Smith Made”.
Maurice Mauriac and Stan Smith have also opted for a design in this limited edition in which the traditional position of the hour markers and the minutes are placed side by side. This can be seen again and again in pilot watches and is an interesting look.

The case back is made of anti-reflective sapphire crystal which bears a portrait of Smith and gives a glimpse into the movement behind it. The latter is an ETA caliber, the 2824-2, a popular, reliable, powerhouse of an automatic movement.

The Stan Smith Signature Watch is, as mentioned, a limited edition with only 100 pieces produced in green, red and blue. All models are delivered with a rubber and a Nato bracelet, with a key ring in matching colours and with a tennis ball signed by Stan Smith himself.
