After the success of the Vertical Double Tourbillon in 2015, Speake-Marin launches a new masterpiece this year: the Black Magister Vertical Double Tourbillon. This timepiece features two 60-second tourbillons on an all black guilded mainplate to enhance the contrast of the mechanism.
Since the foundation of Speake-Marin, the tourbillon played an important role in their watches. The Foundation Watch, the first timepiece of the British brand, was equipped with a tourbillon and many more followed since.

Peter Speake-Marin recognises the tourbillon’s capacity to improve timekeeping accuracy by averaging out positional errors due to gravity. However, it is also the visual aspect of this escapement, that draws watchmakers and watch lovers equally to the tourbillon. The animation it gives to the dial shows time moving, illustrating the passing of time.

The dial shows an oven-fired enamel subdial with the hours and minutes displayed by Speake-Marin’s signature Foundation hands in heated blue steel. Just above the dial is the 72-hour power reserve indicator. Vertically aligned on the left the synchronised pirouettes of the twin tourbillons catch the eye. A single massive bridge supports the upper side of both tourbillons. The inspiration for its design comes partly from one of the first tourbillons in the Speake-Marin collection: The Vintage Tourbillon Mk II.

Each tourbillon has its own independent gear train powered by its own mainspring barrel. The two barrels are wound simultaneously via the crown. The two tourbillon regulators are linked by a miniature limited-slip spring gearbox.
For this piece, the mainplate was treated “all black” to reveal the beauty of the mechanism and of the decoration through a strong contrast of colors. The movement powering this timepiece is the manually wound SM calibre SM6.

The proportions of the generously sized 46 mm white gold Piccadilly case allow both space for a large and legible time display as well as room for the tourbillons to be fully appreciated without being crammed closely together. The Black Magister Vertical Double Tourbillon also features two sapphire crystals treated with antireflective coating.
This watch comes on a leather-strap and is water resistant up to 3 bar.

The Speake-Marin Black Magister Vertical Toubillon is a unique piece.
