Chronographs Designed Like An F1 Engine

Designed for racing drivers, the new Bell & Ross BR-RS17 collection is made up for exceptional watches. Their design, inspired by Formula 1, brings together technological advances and innovative materials used in the racing world. Bell & Ross has only chronograph models included in this series.
These chronograph timepieces are exceptional in terms of legibility and finishes. After all, this complication was invented to measure short periods of time and is considered the most important one in the race world, since it enables the performance of the vehicles on the track to be measured with great accuracy, turning theses timepieces into indispensable tools for drivers and timekeepers.

The new BR-RS17 collection features a wide range of color shades. These vivid hues are found on the steering wheel of the Renault F1 single-seater. The colors allow functions to be clearly identified and prioritized; the time, chronograph, date, seconds and power reserve have each their own color. And the elements relating to the chronograph complication are partially coated in “Renault” yellow – a shade which was sported by the single-seaters since Renault entered F1 in 1977.

The case of the BR X1 is made of Carbone Forgé and the dial of the BR 03-94 is crafted of carbon fiber. This lightweight and highly resilient composite material is used in aircrafts and racing cars and therefore perfectly suited for the structural components subject to extreme mechanical stress. So why not use it in a watch?
The material has been reworked by Bell & Ross to meet the quality criteria of watchmaking. The fibers were redesigned and also was the resin that holds them in place. The case of the BR 03 is made from ceramic.
All cases are water-resistant up to 100 meters, the straps are made from rubber paired with carbon fiber for a sportier look.

BR 03-94

This chronograph features a matt, black ceramic case designed to withstand shock and a sporty carbon fiber dial. This lightweight, resilient material evokes the steering wheel of the Renault F1 car.
The Start & Stop push-button of the chronograph features yellow anodized aluminium. The yellow color is also found on the internal bezel that features a tachymeter scale used to calculate the speed of a car.
The watch is powered by the calibre BR-CAL.301. This automatic mechanical movement features hours, minutes and small seconds at 3 o’clock as well as a date at 4.30. At 9 o’clock the 30-minute timer of the chronograph can be found.

This BR X1 can be considered a quite extreme variation of Bell & Ross’ iconic watch, the BR 03. It boasts all the elements that are essential to a chronograph watch designed for race drivers. Its skeleton mechanism allows a deeper insight. The bezel features a tachymeter scale and the dial flange is split into several hour segments, each of which has a corresponding color. The chronograph hands are yellow, the date is red, the small seconds hand is green and the hour hand white.
This timepiece is powered by the calibre BR-CAL.313.

BR X1 Tourbillon

In this watch Haute Horologerie comes with a splash of color – these complementary primary colors are rarely used in high-end watches. The flying tourbillon compensates for the detrimental effect the earth’s gravitational pull has on the mechanism and increases the accuracy of the watch. The tourbillon is housed inside a “floating” cage that is fitted on a hub. The timer indications are red and yellow, the 4-day power reserve is shown in green and white hands indicate the time.
Inside the case works the BR-CAL.283, a hand-wound flying tourbillon movement.

All three versions are limited editions. The BR 03-94 is limited to 500 pieces, the BR X1 to 250 and the BR X1 Tourbillon to 20 pieces.
