Frederique Constant combined three unique technologies, a manufacture movement, smart watch functions and caliber analytics to create the world’s first 3.0 Watch: The Hybrid Manufacture. To unveil this revolution in the Swiss watch industry, Frederique Constant partnered with Emmy Award winning actor Mark Ruffalo, probably best known for his iconic portrayal of The Hulk.
The launch event, unveiling the Hybrid Manufacture, was held in New York. So, let’s look at this new watch.
Like mentioned above, the Hybrid Manufacture 3.0 combines three unique technologies. With this watch, Frederique Constant is the first watchmaker to combine a manufacture mechanical caliber with smartwatch functionality. The Hybrid Manufacture is powered by the FC-750, an in-house developed, in-house produced and in-house assembled automatic movement. It comes with a date function and is set by the crown at 3 o’clock. The caliber works at a frequency of 28.800 alt/h and provides a 42 hour power reserve when fully wound.
The electronic part of the FC-750 is also in-house developed, in-house produced and in-house assembled by Frederique Constant. This electronic part of the caliber enables the smart function of the Hybrid Manufacture Watch. By integrating the two technologies inside a caliber, the technological challenge was to delete the negative magnetic effects between the mechanical and the electronic parts. Therefore, a anti-magnetic shield case was developed.
So much for the caliber, now let’s get to the smart watch functions. The connection between the watch and the Hybrid App is done by the pusher button located on the left side of the watch case via Bluetooth. The smart watch functions are visible on the watch on the counter at 12 o’clock as well as in the Hybrid App. Activity training and sleep monitoring is included as well as a world timer and a dynamic coach.
Frederique Constant integrated a proprietary caliber analytics function, an algorithm to measure rate, amplitude and beat error. Once a day the watch analyzes the health of the mechanical movement.
All this comes in a polished stainless steel case which measures 42 mm in diameter. It is water-resistant up to 5 atm and comes with a see-through case back. The dials come in silver, blue or black, and there’s also a red gold version with a silver dial.
The Hybrid Manufacture is delivered in a wooden winder box offering a removable charger for the electronical smartwatch functionality and a winder rotating the box that charges the mainspring in the mechanical caliber.
Frederique Constant will be donating the first two Hybrid Manufacture timepieces to an upcoming charity auction to benefit The Solutions Project, an organization that Mark Ruffalo is leading to move us to clean, renewable energy powered by wind, water and sun.
