IWC Schaffhausen introduced a special edition in February, honoring the legendary Ceramic Fliegerchronograph from 1994. After fading into obscurity for almost a quarter of a century, it became a cult classic under the name “Black Flieger” over the last couple of years and is now considered one of the most sought-after models from IWC Schaffhausen’s collection.
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition „Tribut to 3705“ faithfully replicates the original’s dial design while sporting the newest technology.
With luminous indices and hands, which had aged over the years to a warm orange, the once-forgotten chronograph was winning collector’s hearts. Neo-vintage charme paired with a black ceramic case – no wonder everyone wanted one of these.
The newly released Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition „Tribut to 3705“ pays homage to this exceptional timepiece and its dial is a replica of the original from the 1990s. Two subdials at 9 and 12 o’clock display stop times of up to 12 hours, the small second is located at 6 o’clock. The day and date display at 3 o’clock balances the picture nicely.
While the original was equipped with a ceramic case, IWC Schaffhausen opted for a revolutionary new material in the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition „Tribut to 3705“, the Ceratanium. It is light and robust like titanium, but also similarly hard and scratch-resistant like ceramic. Furthermore, there’s no need for a coating which means that nothing will rub or chip off when the watch takes a dive.
The case measures 41 mm in diameter and is water resistant up to 6 bar.
While the original chronograph was powered by the Valjoux calibre 7750, the new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition „Tribut to 3705“ boasts sophisticated, up to-date technology from IWC Schaffhausen. Inside the case, the in-house 69380 calibre is at work. This robust and precise chronograph movement in classic column-wheel design works tirelessly at a frequency of 4 Hz and builds up a power reserve of 46 hours.
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition „Tribut to 3705“ is a limited edition of 1000 pieces.
