The Only Watch auction 2017 is just around the corner. The annual event is taking place on November 11th, auctioning of unique timepieces especially made for this world-renowned charity event. Its success is based on the generosity, altruism and willingness expressed by organisers, partners and watch brands. The costs for organising Only Watch represent less than 2% of the auction result; the rest of the money is donated. Since its first edition in 2005, Only Watch has aggregated over 25 million Euros, supporting numerous scientific and medical research programmes. This is as impressive as beautiful – and a lot of prestigious watch brands are contributing to this charity event.
Today we are looking at the Only Watch model from Hublot. The watch manufacturer designed it as a Usain Bolt-model. This is a fitting choice, to support the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy in collaboration with a three-time Olympic triple gold medallist.
CEO of Hublot, Ricardo Guadalupe, says: “It is our hope that this watch, along with what Usain Bolt and ourselves are offering the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy, will symbolise this notion, the desire and the ambition to see “the strongest muscles – those of Usain Bolt – helpint to support the weakest muscles – those afflicted by the muscle-weakening disease, muscular dystrophy.” And Usain Bolt himself expresses similar hopes connected to this timepiece: “I’m thankful to have full use of my muscles and to have been able to run fast and set so many records. I’m happy to support Only Watch and help in the scientific and medical research on neuromuscular diseases.”
The model Hublot created is a transparent watch out of sapphire, one of the most difficult materials to machine. In choosing this material, it has sought to convey a message – that of pushing limits even further, always believing that they can be exceeded or overcome. A watch that embodies hope and the desire to win. it is inspired by one of Usain Bolt’s favourite models (which we introduced here).
In a 45 mm Big Bang case, the Big Bang Unico Sapphire Usain Bolt for Only Watch is emblazoned with the Jamaican sprinter’s trademark green and gold design paired with a transparent strap. There will be a second strap included, a yellow-gold colored calfskin, featuring the silhouette of the Jamaican flag, in a nod to the athlete’s origins. The counter at 9 o’clock bears the silhouette of the “Lightning Bolt” and his iconic victory sign and the second hand is also a unique nod to the runner. The skeleton dial is made from yellow gold.
The case is water-resistant up to 10 atm and houses the caliber HUB1242. It beats at 4 Hz and provides a power reserve of 72 hours.
The watch is accompanied by a Puma shirt signed by Usain Bolt.
And: whomever manages to get his hands on this piece in the auction can look forward to a meet & greet with the fastest man in the world – Hublot will organize it for the highest bidder. So time to get excited and get your wallets out. Although it might not be all that affordable.
