Ulysse Nardin has just introduced a new model, the Skeleton X Magma. The watch is made of a combination of ultra-light carbon fiber and red marbled epoxy resin – and it seems as if at least the color combination has risen straight from hell up to Le Locle in Switzerland. As the name suggests, the Skeleton X Magma is reminiscent of liquid magma and each model is unique. Reduced to the essentials, this watch is volcanic, powerful and masculine.

With its completely exposed technical characteristics, nothing is left to the imagination. The movement of the Skeleton X Magma is skeletonized to the absolute maximum and housed in a 43 mm carbon case, combined with epoxy resin. It is very light and comes with a striking marble pattern. Its lightness makes this watch comfortable to wear in everyday life, despite its large diameter. The case is also water resistant to 5 atm.

As already mentioned, the Skeleton X Magma comes with an extremely skeletonized dial (and movement – more about that later). On the dial, the X formed by the four indexes is surrounded by a rectangle, which is anchored by Roman numerals on both sides. The combination of red and black is hypnotic and stimulating, flowing from the case into the dial. At the 3 and 9 o’clock positions, the red Roman numerals are emblazoned, and in order to ensure the best readability even at night, Ulysse Nardin has coated the hands with grey Super-LumiNova.

Under the open dial the lava-red, angular movement can be seen. The hand-wound manufacture movement UN-371 offers a generous power reserve of whole 4 days and is technically wonderfully sophisticated.

The design of the Skeleton X Magma is rounded off by a black leather strap. We can imagine that this design will probably polarize. On the other hand, it may be precisely because of its uniqueness that it will quickly find enthusiastic lovers.
